So I've had this Tumbler for a while now, long time lurker and rarely posting. Just thought I'd give a little better introduction of myself than what my bio says.

I mostly prefer to keep to myself so excuse my sparse social interactions, haha. You can call me Charlie and I am definitely female. I was born the year Dr. Robert Ballard discovered the remains of the Titanic and for some inexplicable reason, I feel a connection to the “unsinkable” ocean liner. I had a minor obsession with the ship as a teen, and tend to enjoy reading about it, or watching documentaries or youtube videos of it. I am also a lover of Tudor history. 

My main interest here on Tumbler surrounds the Sims and fanfiction. I’ve been an avid simmer since the original Sims came out. I don’t know about anyone else, but for some reason I can get a kind of god complex when I play the sims, lol. I discovered mods during the Sims 3 and have been hooked ever since. My two favorite mods are MC command center and Wicked Whims. I’ve also used the extreme violence mod before and some of the sims storylines I created with these mods are rather, ahem, interesting. I would be willing to share if anyone is interested, just fair warning, these interesting sims stories are NSFW. 

My other love includes fanfiction. I first got involved in 2001 and was introduced in a now defunct Harry Potter site. My earliest fics are now lost. I later became prolific on fanfiction.net and you can still see my works there through the link in my profile. In 2005 I switched from Harry Potter over to Star Wars. For a brief time I had drifted into Gilmore Girls before drifting back to Harry Potter and back to Star Wars where I am currently firmly based. I have grown annoyed with fanfiction.net and decided to switch over to Archive of Our Own where all my current fics are being posted. 

My favorite fic trope is time travel/ time travel fix-its. 

I enjoy a variety of AU’s Such as: Anakin doesn’t fall, Darth Vader/Padme Amidala fics where Anakin was raised as a Sith, Character X doesn’t die, Luke and Leia were raised by at least one of their parents, and a multitude of variations of these tropes. In recent months I’ve gotten into modern au anidala fics, a trope that I’ve avoided for a while.

Psychology is an interest of mine and I enjoy incorporating it into my works in recent years. If I could pass math and had the finances, I would pursue a degree in the subject. Mental Illness is a subject that is very important to me and I like to consider myself an advocate for the support of mental illness and fully believe in the benefits of therapy. So I do not, under any circumstances, tolerate the use of words like crazy and all its synonyms as a form of insult. Everyone struggles with something so a little kindness and understanding, compassion, is something we should extend to everyone around us, including those who have wronged us. I am very open with talking about my own struggles, in the hopes that I can help someone else struggling in whatever way I can. Sometimes, it helps to know that you are not alone in your struggles. 

I am not perfect, in any way, but I try to be a decent person with integrity. I make mistakes and often struggle in how to fix those mistakes. Often, I need people to come to me and tell me if I have hurt or offended them due to my own lack of a filter and impulsivity. I am very open to listening to grievances and to finding a way to work through those grievances. However, what I will never do is blast those grievances or work through them in a public forum. I prefer not to stir drama on the internet. It is preferable, IMHO, to work through any issues privately rather than air it all publicly. I have seen a lot of examples when grievances are aired online and it only ever invites people outside the situation to insert themselves into the situation and stir the drama even further. I have no interest in participating in such situations, it is way too stressful. This is why I have distanced myself from facebook. I would much rather save this account for stress relief fun. 

And here, I feel that I should reiterate another point I made in my profile. I very rarely, if ever, check my messages here on tumbler. When I first joined and for quite a while, the only messages I would receive was porn spam. So I found myself avoiding my messages here. I have zero interest in accepting porn spam. No, I will not check out your webcam. No, I am not interested in watching hot women or connecting with hot women. While I appreciate the female form and have had some celebrity girl crushes, I am very interested in men. And no, I am also not interested in unsolicited penis pictures either. Why do I appear to be interested in this shit? 

Back to a fun topic. My love for history, sims, fanfiction and geeky stuff is also accompanied by my love for music. My two favorite genres of music are Rock and Classical. I have a wide variety of music tastes but I can’t stand country music and disco. Ick…lol! I was exposed to a wide variety growing up so of course I love music. I listen to music during a majority of everyday tasks and while I read and write. My music library is absolutely huge!

MID YEAR BOOK FREAK OUT TAG 2022

It’s the first day of July and it’s time to check in on those reading goals! I've been doing this tag for the past two years and I'm happy to see that this year so many other booklrs are doing it too!

My reading has been going fine. I have started DNFing more books which is ultimately great so I have fewer 2 star reads than usual (I don't count DNFs towards my reading goal). Thrillers are supposed to be my favorite genre but this year I've had such bad luck with them, they're either 3 stars or lower. Romance is the only genre that's making me happy. As always I have multiple answers for everything so here goes:

elvis johan welty — tattoo artist/charming crime lord, 40-45, bisexual. canonically has two sweet children with his ex-wife who he’s on amazing terms with. owns one of strangeville’s best (and only) tattoo shops, does custom work and is one of the most gentle crime lords that the city has ever seen. doesn’t always have to be a crime lord, but is abundantly rich in most verses. he works with all kinds of supernatural beings with no judgement, as long as he gets paid. tom hardy.

zeppelin hans welty — podcast host/true crime writer, 27-30, heterosexual. things happen in zep’s life that just isn’t right or normal. he becomes a witness to horrible things, and then can write them in a compelling way. but why do they keep happening to him? he’s quiet, a little bit jaded, but uses dark humor to make up for it all. lives with his half-brother some of the time, but mostly tries to stay out of strangeville. barry koeghan.

wren abigail stark — detective/private investigator, 47, bisexual. when she was fourteen, she had a kid but her parents offered to raise him like her brother and that is what came of quinn stark. to deal with the stress, she pushed herself into her work. she has an uncanny ability to predict things that were about to happen... always working off of a gut feeling. but she lives like a bachelor in a one bedroom apartment that smells like stale pizza at all times. amy adams.

vaughn jacob advena — sheriff of strangeville, 30-35, heterosexual. people come and go, but the advena family stayed in tact. he took over as sheriff from his father but wasn’t sure if he had the heart. he swore up and down that he’d leave the town, but he never managed to. now any secrets that he has to keep makes him a bitter, jaded human being. he’s turned to alcohol to quell his paranoia, and hides some of the town’s weirdest secrets. miles teller.

virgil “gil” michael advena — motel owner/landlord, 25-29, bisexual. for some reason, gil was always happy to stay despite what his brother wanted. his mother raised him to be a ‘good boy’ and even though extreme anxiety takes over at time (keeping him up days at a time) he thinks that what he does is good. he takes people in, the motel barely making enough to keep itself running... but as long as he helps, who cares? will poulter.

dax felipe martinez — children’s book author, 40-45, bisexual. it’s interesting that a bitter old man would decide to write children’s books... except those are the only things that sold. in fact, he was a children’s book manufacturer with how many he could come up with at a time. but he hated kids, and he hated people. when he had enough money he bought acres and acres of inhabited land outside of strangeville... living in the middle of the woods in a small cabin. oscar isaac.

knox kensington taylor — rich kid/business owner, 25-30, heterosexual. maybe his family made a deal with the devil, or maybe they are just using the entire town as their own person bank... but knox owns one of the smaller ‘taylor’ businesses in strangeville. he never questions where the money comes from, but he is part of a secret society. your typical rich kid who just wants to experience life, taking risks anywhere he can. completely arrogant and annoying, but you can’t help but want to know more. mike faist.

lorelai “rory”  hudson (ຊiphrนth)  — kindergarden teacher/alien, unknown, bisexual. when rory landed on earth, she was not ‘rory’. in fact, she had no idea the english/human language at all. the first thing she ever did was binge watch gilmore girls over and over until she learned english, so most of her personality comes from that. she chose the name because rory was her favourite character... and because she didn’t know what a normal ‘human’ name was. and then she binge watched glee, so she’s all over the place. but kids love her, and she just wants to live a normal human life since her family abandoned her on earth. victoria pedretti.

For the fans, it’s never about the “happy endings”. People misunderstood that it seems to get a good storyline, either it has to be happy or dark. It’s not that simple. It’s not Happy Ending vs Dark Ending. It’s about good storytelling and characterization.

For years, fans cared more about the characters. When a writer only focused on the plot, and not the character, then they would usually sacrifice the progression, the development, the investment, the connection, and the fans who actually watched the show FOR the characters since the beginning. Good storytelling is when it elevates the character (good or bad) into something layered.

Season 1: 

Aaron was arrested for Lilly’s murder was a good thing; something that should be done. The baddie finally was captured, even got hit by a truck. 

Logan wanted to jump off the bridge was a cliffhanger; something that would keep the fans tuned in for the next season. 

Lianne took the money was IN character; she wasn’t a good mother and Veronica finally admitted that. For a whole season, V thought that by solving Lilly’s murder, her mom would return, but in the end, it didn’t matter. V accepted that. It sucks, but it was progress for Veronica that she finally let her go, although she lost the money. There was balance for these plots and these characters, that is why season 1 was the best.

Season 2: 

Keith missed the flight wasn’t about a happy ending -- it was a set up for the next season because he received a mysterious assignment from Kendall. Again, it kept the fans wanting more.

Season 3: 

Logan beat up Gory was a set up for the next season. Like I mentioned before, if the show wasn’t canceled, it would give Logan a darker path or a lighter path in his life. It was supposed to make the fans wanting more; what would happen to Logan? What would happen to him and Veronica? There was a lot of speculation at the time, but it wasn’t supposed to be the ending.

Keith lost the election, according to RT himself, because he helped Veronica. Which was IN character. He helped Veronica, and it ignited another rivalry between him and Jake Kane again. It was supposed to be another set up for the next season, and it wasn’t supposed to be the ending. 

The Movie:

There are so many retcons in this movie that fans noticed and many expressed their displeasure because the storytelling of the movie was a bit weak, BUT they are still IN characters. Yes, there are some changes, obviously you can’t have the same characters from a decade ago. Logan was matured, Wallace was matured, Mac was matured, Weevil was matured, even Piz was matured. 

Veronica was trying to find herself and decide what kind of person she wanted to be. At the end of the movie, she decided that she wanted to help people. And that is why many fans liked the movie because the character progressed into the next stage. The character didn’t stay stasis.

The movie had so many flaws, especially with cheesy dialogues, unimportant cameos, and frankly not so good plots. But when fans have waited for so long for the conclusion of the series, to have characters finally get their deserved/bittersweet endings, is a good thing.

The Books (The Thousand Dollar Tan Line and Mr. Kiss & Tell):

Maybe because the books were (co)written by Jennifer Graham, a woman, a fan, she knew about the characterization of the characters. Fans immediately noticed the differences between her writing and Rob’s writing; which parts were hers, which parts were RT’s. 

Nobody cared nor remember about the professor and the murderer/rapist, but everyone mostly remembered about Haley, Lianne, Aurora, Hunter, Petra, Jade, Norris, Grace, and even The Gutiérrez cousins.

Notice that all of the memorable characters in the books were absent from season 4 because RT didn’t write them in the books and he felt that he didn’t need to explain their absence.

Logan and Weevil had a good relationship, and they both were friendly with each other. That was progress and should be allowed to continue.

Logan and Veronica had stability and a good relationship even when there were some problems. Even when Leo (who was inserted by RT) was there. But it was pretty much good characterization for both of the characters. Something that was missing in season 4.

Season 4:

To those who said that the whole season was great except for the ending, didn’t pay any attention. From the very beginning, fans were being introduced to a lot of new characters that fans didn’t know nor care like it was some sort a new show. They have their own storylines, their own plots, even their own endings. It would be fine if this was a brand new show, but it wasn’t. It was a continuation of the previous installment. The new characters from the books were much more nuanced compare to the new characters in season 4.

The show focused more on the plots instead of the characterizations. They focused more on the special guest stars instead of the regular cast.

The characterization of Veronica was WAY OFF; so different and seems to be regressed to her former self when she was 17 years old. She was rude to everyone including Logan and Wallace. She didn’t know what was going on with Keith. She was nonchalant about filming others having sex. She was using drugs. She was drinking and shooting a gun. She was mocking Wallace and Logan for having stability. She was more interested in having a fling with Leo but she refused to break up with Logan.

Fans would accept Veronica’s regression if there was something happened to her. Why she behave like that? What was the reason? She was having a life she chosen from the movie and the books, and yet she wasn’t happy. Because of what? What kind of trauma that made her regressed? No reason at all? Because normal life is not something that a detective should have? And that’s when the characterization was down the drain. When a character doesn’t have a motivation to do what’s right or what’s wrong, their behavior is considered to be OOC. 

Matty, a new character, a white rich sociopath girl, wasn’t Veronica, and yet the fans were expected to treat and view her like she was Veronica. 

Marcia, the new chief of police was a wasted character. She wasn’t a foil for Veronica, wasn’t an enemy of anybody, and she spent her time in the precinct only.

The assassins from the Mexican cartel had too many plots and not enough characterization, and frankly, the fans didn’t care about them, especially when the writers sacrificed Wallace and Mac.

The death of Logan wasn’t just the only thing that was considered worse, but the fact that they immediately didn’t see the aftermath. They never showed the emotional impact and didn’t even give the characters and the fans to mourn the character. RT tends to leapfrog a plot, even in iZombie, and put exposition instead. 

The death of Logan was wasted, done by the most insignificant villain in the history of the show that didn’t even have a proper characterization and development. But the show promoted him like he was one of the best things ever happened.

Logan’s death wasn’t caused by a heroic moment or something dramatic. It was last minute and immediately swept under the carpet.

Veronica spent her last monologue talking about exposition. it was an ending. It wasn’t something that fans wanted to tune in, unlike the previous seasons, movie, and books.

So the whole notion that every season ended in a dark ending is partly untrue. Plot-wise, it should served their characters. It should elevated them into something better or something darker, but it was interesting nonetheless. Season 4 didn’t have that at all. All the characters were gone, finished. Veronica rode off to the sunset without any kind of satisfying ending, good or bad. Bad, mostly.

This is why Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul and Cobra Kai are praised because of the writings and characterization. We see the progression of the characters of Jimmy to Saul, who is not a good person, but still layered. We see the development of Johnny Lawrence; from a bully to an anti-hero. Or Hawk from a nerd into a bully himself. IT'S THE CHARACTERIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT accompanied by good storytelling. It’s not (just) about happy/sad ending.

It’s also not just about killing off the main character. There’s a reason why fans are still angry with the ending of How I Met Your Mother or LOST. So many people are pissed with the ending of Dexter and Game of Thrones. Don’t forget about The 100, Gilmore Girls, and Arrow. Not because of the dark endings of those shows, or the killing off the main characters. It was because they wasted so many years with the characterization and development just to get subverted endings that the writers seem to pat themselves on the back, ignoring any fans who had been there for the start.

And RT’s betrayal to the fans isn’t just about killing off the main character. It was the way he did it. He was using the fans to revive the show, using the fans’ money to revive it, knowing that he would kill off a popular character, knowing that he would piss loyal fans and the fandom, who had been very supportive with his works and projects, and yet still done it, just because he despised a character he created for so long. Even BBC News knew this trend and called him out. It was the way he exploited the fans that were considered to be a betrayal.

Y/N woke up feeling like shit. She didn’t know what she was upset about, it wasn’t like she wanted a relationship with Sebastian. He was always on tour and whenever he wasn’t he wasn’t on tour he was on studio. He drank and smoked whenever he was nervous or whenever he had nothing to do, he was crude to most people and too outspoken. However, she couldn’t help but had a thing for him and suddenly feeling that she had trapped within her after getting dumped for the first time. Mary had tried to cheer her up but of course she couldn’t compete with his ex-fiancée, specially when she was the root of all his trauma, at least in Y/N’s opinion.

She walked up to the huge kitchen and found the least of all people she wanted to see, Sebastian. He was sat by the balcony eating sourdough bread toast with some butter and she had to admit, he had good taste. There was nothing Y/N enjoyed more than a nice hot sourdough toast with melted butter, however she did not want to see or talk to Sebastian. 

     - Are you feeling better, Y/N? - there goes the no talking part. She opened the fridge to grab some orange juice. - You can’t ignore me forever.

    - Your ex-fianceé, really? - Y/N rolled her eyes at him, grabbing a glass from the cabinet that looked way too fancy to be a simple glass, but this was Vegas and everything seemed to be over the top. 

    - I wanna get married and maybe have kids, Y/N. All the girls I get with just want to sleep with me and get a glimpse of all of this, Melody knows me and we’ve known each other for ages. You understand, right? 

    - Of course, I do. - she gave him a forced smile. - Because whenever I get baby fever, I also text my ex and ask him to come and fuck me, 

She turned on her back, taking his beautiful plate of perfectly toasted and buttered bread and walking back to Mary’s. She felt bad for Fred who had to sleep in her bedroom as Mary wanted to comfort her, but it was the first time she had a friend after ... a big disappointment. Yes, that was what is was, a big disappointment. 

Y/N entered the room holding her freshly stolen plate of toast and sat next to Mary who has rolling her face using a jade stone.

    - Did you make those? - Mary asked, taking one of the toast from themselves. 

    - I stole them from Sebastian. Thought it would make me feel better but it didn’t. - she leaned against the pillows. What was she doing? She wanted to be a good writer and good writers don’t get emotionally involved. Mary tightened his lips, a sad look on her face. - What?

    - Nothing. - she shrugged. - Hey, let’s go swimming.

    - I didn’t bring my swimsuit, I don’t even think I have one. - Y/N took another toast, lazily getting comfortable. However, Mary was having none of it. She walked over to the suitcase that Y/N had brought in last night so she could do some writing and pulled out one of her black bras and a matching pair of panties. - I’m not gonna go swimming in my underwear.

   - Alright, naked it is. - Y/N rolled her eyes and grabbed her underwear, grumpily walking to the bathroom so she could get changed into her underwear. All she wanted was to be in Mary’s room, watch Gilmore Girls, and write more of her article.

Mary was waiting outside in her summer hat, sunglasses and swimming costume, getting ready to go to pool. She followed her into their own private pool, where Y/N wrapped herself on one of the monogramed towels, sitting in one of the chairs, as Mary went to soak her legs. 

   - Come sit next to me. - Mary whined and Y/N followed, towel still wrapped around her. - Tell me, when did you exactly discovered you liked Sebastian?

  - I don’t like Sebastian. He’s my friend and as my friend I want him to make the right love choices that don’t include cheating ex-fianceés.

  - That’s because you think you’re the best for him and I agree. - she said, eyes on the bottle of champagne she was opening. - Why don’t you tell him you like him? 

  - Because I don’t like him, I just want what’s best for you and I don’t think she’s in a place where’s she’s not gonna cheat again.

  - Hey ladies. - Fred came up from behind, hugging Mary and placing a kiss on her cheek. - Are we going for a swim?

  - Maybe. - she said and he gave her a naughty look before he pushed her onto the pool. Mary shrieked as she came in contact with the water making Fred and Y/N laugh, something she didn’t really enjoyed. She pushed Y/N by the foot, making her enter the water before doing the same to her husband and in a matter of seconds all the three were into the pool.

The other guys came by the pool to investigate the splashing sound but once they saw the three of them all in, they’d join in. All but Sebastian and Melody who came in later. Y/N finally got a good look at Melody and much to her disappointment she was beautiful. She was a bit shorter than Sebastian but still tall, with gorgeous short shiny black hair and the most see through dress she had ever seen. She had her hand over him, almost as if he was protecting her.

Sebastian’s eyes on the other hand were on the very soaked Y/N who had turned her head to joke around with Mary and Fred. Noticing this, Melody slapped his chest.

  - Hey, Seb, join us. - Anthony said. 

  - I’m afraid I don’t have a swimsuit, neither does Melody.

  - So what, Y/N’s in her underwear. - Mary said, making Y/N want to drown her right there. Sebastian looked down into the water, seeing the very lacy black bra and had to look at the sky. He’s trying to make things right with his ex-fianceé not get a boner from staring at the girl he’d kiss two nights ago. - Come in, you can bring Melody.

 - You know what guys, I’m gonna be going. - Y/N climbed the stairs up from the pool giving Sebastian a very good look of what she wore under all the little boo-peep clothing. The people inside the pool whined as she wrapped a towel around herself. - I need to go review some weekly articles.

 - Isn’t that an intern’s job? I thought you were just writing about the band’s last tour. - Melody pointed out receiving a very dirty from everyone else, excluding Sebastian who was looking at his shoes. 

 - Oh, I’m an intern. - Y/N smiled at her. - But my editor asked to look at my fellow colleagues articles. I was chief editor of the university paper at Harvard.

 - Oh, a ivy league kid. Shouldn’t you be a political reporter or something? - Sebastian knew Melody was teasing, Y/N however seemed very happy to reminisce about her university days and her job. She was a passionate writer and Sebastian almost felt bad about the nature of the magazine she had picked. 

 - My father was a political reporter and my mother was a television reporter, felt like we needed someone doing press. - she replied, drying her hair with the towel even commanding more of Sebastian’s attention. - I have to go now, work to do.

Seeing as supernatural has officially wrapped, that Dean and Sam have hung up their jackets and boots (for now) and I’ve seen so many wonderful and heart wrenching and heartwarming posts explaining what this show means to everyone, I figured it may be cathartic for me to do the same.

Now, I’m not an emotional person typically. I like logic and tend to live on that side of my brain, I don’t deal with emotions well, and that’s why this week has been so damn difficult for me. Trying to figure out why the heck I’m crying over a stupid tv show! Well, I’ve figured out, probably because it isn’t just a stupid tv show.

I started watching this show on day 1, I was 14, life had not been kind up until that point. The only thing I knew was that Dean from Gilmore girls was in it, and that Jensen guy was super cute. I never even fathomed that 15 seasons later I would be hardcore mourning the loss of this show and these characters.

Over the years I lost touch with the show, high school, sports, jobs etc. got in the way. Then I moved away for college, I was alone, homesick and didn’t know anyone. I happened to see something promoting the season that year, and immediately grabbed back ahold of this lifeline. A little older, not much wiser, and a lot more jaded, I related to Dean so much. I was able to understand so much more about the internal struggles and inner demons they fight on top of those externally they deal with. I immediately figured out how I could catch up and watch the seasons I had missed. This was also around the time I found this lovely hellsite that is Tumblr. I found a community and a family when I had no one and for that I am eternally grateful. My eventual roommate for the next 3 years was also a huge fan, and we watched religiously for the next few years.

Then again, life got busy, I graduated, started working, found a man who I somehow convinced to marry me and moved away from home yet again, and I disengaged from supernatural again. Then cue 2020 and the quarantine. About half way through I was not in a healthy head space, I was depressed, anxious, and just not doing well. I was regressing to old unhealthy coping methods and that’s how I stumbled back onto Tumblr. It just so happened one of the first things I see is something for spn season 15...once again...the show, the fandom, the characters were there for me at my lowest. I decided to start watching from episode one, and catch up. I will be caught up just in time for the final 7 episodes to air. I’ve become emotionally invested again, and now that I’m older have been able to reflect and appreciate really just how much this silly little show with the cute boys has literally saved my life a few times.

Not only the story but the actors who give so much of themselves to us, who share their struggles candidly and openly and foster such a welcoming and understanding (and sarcastic af) community that will no doubt live on. Reading through the plethora of posts today it really hit home the eclectic group of weirdos this show has touched and brought together. And not only impacted, but did so in a most profound way. Literally saving lives. It’s a hard thing to say goodbye to for very valid reasons. We know this was something special, we know this doesn’t happen normally, and we know we have been blessed with literal angels on earth with this cast and crew.

All in all, I guess what I am trying to say is thank you supernatural for being a lighthouse, informing so many lost and wandering souls of a safe haven. A place to rest and replenish when needed. For teaching us to always keep fighting, and to fight for the important things. That family doesn’t end or start with blood, and that nothing ever really ends.
